The Wiveliscombe Horticultural Society started in 1903 and held annual shows thereafter; they have been held at various venues in or near Wivey over the years, including Langley House, Greenway Farm and the recreation field before moving to Kingsmead School, mainly because of the ever larger size of tents required to display the increasing numbers of entries.

The 100th show was held in 2014 (the 'missing' years were due to two world wars) and the shows continue to be an important part of the social calendar of the town and surrounding areas.
