What is happening
We are transforming the Town Hall bringing it back to life as an an arts, media, cultural and heritage venue for Wiveliscombe and the ten Parishes. We are:
- Repairing, restoring and improving the facilities.
- Through our Shambles brand putting on arts and music events not normally available
- Working to ensure our audiences come from all parts of the community.
In 2023 we got the lights back on including illuminating the Town Clock allowing us to get security alarms and fire certification. Volunteers including the Scouts helped with cleaning and painting. With sponsorship from The Bear Inn and volunteer stewards we put on four events. These events proved that there is support for what the Town Hall can bring the local area. The artists also loved the venue as a place to perform.
In 2024 we hope to put on an event per month while we carry out more work to improve the facilities including repairing the historic ceiling and putting in a toilet!

The story so far
Wiveliscombe Town Hall was built in 1841 for Alexander Baring, First Lord Ashburton, landlord of the Wiveliscombe and Fitzhead Estate, one time MP for Taunton and founder of the London banking house, Baring Brothers & Co. The Wiveliscombe Town Hall Trust.
After many years of standing empty for many years in 2006 a Trust was set up to preserve the building and bring the upper floor back into action as an arts venue for the people of Wiveliscombe and the 10 Parishes. In 2015 the Trust was granted a 125 year lease by the Co-op who own the building.
You can find out more about the history of the building and the amazing work done by previous generations of trustee on https://wiveliscombetownhall.org.uk
Who are we.
The current Trustees are Emma Bettridge (Chair), Chris Perry, Eddie Gaines and Benedict Southworth. All the Trustees live or work in the Ten Parishes and bring a wide range of relevant expertise and experience to the Trust. Progress so far couldn’t have been done without the work of previous trustees and support from local people and business.
