Wivey Action's website has been updated a little and much still applies. There are posts on some new climate and environment action in the Wivey area. However, some of the content may be old and the situation may have since changed.

Since being set-up in October 2014, Wivey Action has organised many activities and meetings, and extended our remit to cover climate and environmental protection in 2017.

We had expert speakers from the Met Office in January 2015 and from the University of Exeter in July 2016. We organised hustings for the general elections in 2015 and 2017 and have held many other well-attended meetings, with speakers and film shows - some organised with neighbouring groups.

Projects have included promoting energy saving at home, giving away free LED light bulbs (funded by returns from local solar power), collecting information on inspriring green homes in the area, lobbying our MP and launching a pledge for climate action.

We also organise local visits, which have included a highly insulated near Passive House, new hydro-power scheme and a wind turbine.

We hold regular Give or Take for Free events, where surplus household items can be given to others to put to good use, so helping to reduce waste and consumerism. Look out for our next one.

We attended the People's Climate March in Bristol in December 2015, before the climate summit in Paris. We welcome the UN's new global agreement, but much more remains to be done and we continue to have lots planned.

Our aims are:

a)  To raise awareness of climate change, the contribution of human carbon emissions and their effects on the life of our community;

b)  To raise awareness of threats to the human and natural environment;

c)  To positively engage and work with local people, businesses and community organisations in the Wiveliscombe area on climate change and environmental problems;

d)  To promote and support low carbon and sustainable living and working in the Wiveliscombe area;

e)  To campaign and manage projects for sustainable solutions to climate change and environmental problems, which improve human well-being and protect the natural world.

f)  To support campaigns and projects promoted by regional and national groups with similar aims, such as The Climate Coalition, Centre for Alternative Technology, Centre for Sustainable Energy, Forum for the Future, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, Hubbub, Transition Network, WRAP and WWF.
